HIGH POINT, N.C., Oct. 23, 2014 – Amber Kelley recently joined the staff of High Point University as a clinical counselor in the Office of Counseling. A High Point native, Kelley has provided more than 25 years of service in the Triad working with individuals on a variety of mental health concerns.
In Kelley’s new role as a clinical counselor at HPU, she provides services that promote wellness. She also works with students to establish attainable goals using a holistic approach.
“I am extremely fortunate to be able to share my knowledge, experience and skills at High Point University and look forward to working together with students, faculty and staff to optimize mental health and wellness,” she says. “I hope to enhance our students’ academic experience by helping them realize and understand the importance and significance of taking care of their own mental health and assisting them in accessing services in the Office of Counseling.”
Kelley’s career began at Charter Hospital in Greensboro. She later became a school counselor for Guilford County Schools, where she served at Parkview Elementary in High Point. She served as director of counseling at HPU before beginning private practice at High Point Psychological and most recently at The Center for Holistic Healing in High Point.
Kelley holds a Bachelor of Arts in psychology with a minor in sociology and a Master of Education with an emphasis in counseling and human development from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She has been a Licensed Professional Counselor by the North Carolina State Board of Licensed Professional Counselors since 1998 and a Nationally Certified Counselor since 1993. She is a Specialist in Disaster Mental Health with the American Red Cross and holds additional certification in Critical Incident Stress Management.
