An experiential learning opportunity organized by High Point University’s pre-law professional program brought law to life for 20 students. They traveled to Raleigh on Oct. 7 to attend a session at the North Carolina Supreme Court. Pre-law advisors Dr. Donna Scheidt and Dr. Scott Ingram led the group.
Students had the opportunity to observe a hearing involving a case between two North Carolina State vehicle inspection stations and The Department of Motor Vehicles. At the end of the hearing, the group had the chance to speak with and ask questions of the Assistant Attorney General.
Following the Supreme Court session, the students walked around and had lunch at Campbell University Law School. They spent time attending a first year law school class, which gave students a chance to see first hand how law school classes differ from undergraduate classes.
“This gave many students their first opportunity to see a law school and to learn about different aspects of law school life,” said Ingram. “Students attended a first-year law school class on torts where they were exposed to the Socratic method used to teach law school and observe how law school classes differ from undergraduate classes.”
