Big Brothers Big Sisters Benefits from HPU Intern

HIGH POINT, N.C., Nov. 4, 2014 – High Point University senior and Cape Elizabeth, Maine, native Caitlin Kane is helping develop positive, lasting relationships in the lives of young people as an intern with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Piedmont in Greensboro.

Kane is a program specialist for Big Brothers Big Sisters. In her position, she utilizes personality tests to successfully match a child in the program with a volunteer. In addition to helping execute fundraising efforts from start to finish, Kane also helps develop and maintain partnerships with other agencies in the community.

She thanks her advisor Dr. Greggory Hundt, associate professor and chair of psychology at HPU, for guiding her throughout the internship application process. As a psychology major, she says many of the classes she has taken go hand in hand with the skills she uses during her internship.

“I have learned a lot about how a nonprofit organization runs and the high level of involvement Big Brothers Big Sisters has in the community,” says Kane. “It has been a great experience to work with the children that are involved in such a wonderful program.”

Kane is just one of dozens of HPU students who are completing internships this semester. Other organizations at which students are volunteering include the United Way of Greater High Point, the Winston-Salem Dash, 107.5 KZL, J.H. Adams Inn, World Relief of High Point and more.
