HIGH POINT, N.C., Dec. 10, 2014 – The hustle and bustle of working at a hotel is hard work but very rewarding. Kelsey Futrell, a senior human relations major at High Point University, has been able to see firsthand what it takes to run a successful hotel. She has been interning at JH Adams Inn in High Point this semester, where she sees the ins and outs of the day-to-day life working in hospitality.
A Livonia, Michigan native, Futrell works closely with the general manager of the Inn, prepping and setting up for events. Futrell also works on the event calendar for the JH Adams Inn.
“I have learned so much about hospitality. A big factor I have noticed are the personalities within the company and how they all work together,” says Futrell. “Not only do the dynamics of the Inn matter, but so does serving the many types of people that come stay.”
Futrell says that her human relations classes have helped prepare her for this internship. Her classes have focused on working in teams, groups and on the different qualities of leaders and managers. Working at the Inn has allowed her to observe that type of environment.
“I have definitely gained a greater understanding of hospitality, customer service and leadership.”
