HIGH POINT, N.C., Dec. 19, 2014 – High Point University students created and shared fundraising campaign ideas on Dec. 15 for the High Point Center for Children and Families. All of the students are strategic communication majors enrolled in the health communications course.
Each of the four groups pitched their plan to the panel of HPCCF advisory board members, who selected a winning campaign that will be used. The project gave students the opportunity to gain real world experience when presenting an idea to a client.
“We could only pick one winner but every group provided extensive material and ideas that we hope to implement in some form for future fundraising events,” says Chris Payne, director of the HPCCF center. “It was evident by the HPU students’ work with the HPCCF that they were giving with their heads, hands and hearts.”
The winning campaign was “Hit a Home Run with HPCCF,” where the entire community will be invited to enjoy a day of team building exercises, food trucks, a raffle and a HPU baseball game to wrap up the event. The students that created the winning campaign were Morgan Bittner, Taylor Smith and Katie Hessie.
“Creating a campaign for a real client in the community was an amazing hands-on experience, and we are thrilled that the HPCCF chose ours to use in the future,” says senior Taylor Smith, one of the winners of the fundraising campaign competition.
“This class has been really helpful for us, because we have been able to learn the type of techniques that you use to create a successful campaign,” says Steven Edwards, senior at HPU.
