HIGH POINT, N.C., Jan. 5, 2015 – High Point University will host its annual service of worship in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day at 11 a.m. on Jan. 19 in the sanctuary of Hayworth Chapel. The service is open to the public; no tickets are required. It will also be streamed live at www.highpoint.edu/live.
Each year the service features noteworthy clergy and scholars from across the country. This year, the Rev. Dr. Raphael Gamaliel Warnock will deliver a message of hope, inspiration and peace. Warnock is the senior pastor of the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, the spiritual home of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Warnock graduated from Morehouse College and holds a Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary in New York City. He has been listed as one of “Thirty Leaders of the Future” by Ebony magazine, among other recognitions.
Dr. Louise Toppin, soprano, and the Genesis Gospel Choir will provide music for the service. Kappa Alpha Psi, National Pan-Hellenic Council, Delta Sigma Theta, Zeta Phi Beta, Alpha Kappa Alpha and the Board of Stewards will serve as worship leaders and greeters.
Visitors are encouraged to enter campus through the welcome center at the intersection of Montlieu Avenue and Centennial Street. Parking will be available for community members behind Hayworth Fine Arts Center.
