HIGH POINT, N.C., Feb. 12, 2015 – With less than 100 days before graduation, Chelsea Leo, High Point University senior, was ready to network and find her dream job at the university’s Career and Internship Expo held Feb. 11.
“I met with the Office of Career and Internship Services beforehand to figure out how I should best prepare,” Leo said. “They told me to research and have insight of the companies that I am interested in. With graduation approaching, I am here to network and find the right fit for me.”
The Career & Internship Expo allowed HPU students to network with dozens of major companies on campus in the university’s Slane Student Center, including Insight Global, BB&T, Diversant, Peace Corps, Ipreo, Northwestern Mutual, Volvo Group and Guilford County Schools. Students had the opportunity to take the first step toward applying for internships and full-time positions with these organizations.
Paige Risner, a 2014 graduate of HPU, represented Volvo Group at the Expo. She was hired in their Sales and Marketing department shortly after she graduated. Risner says that her internship at Volvo Group helped her land that job after graduation.
“Eric Melniczek in Career and Internship Services helped me a lot during my time at HPU by teaching me to build my resume and prepping me for interviews,” says Risner. “I wouldn’t have gotten the internship and be where I am now without all of his help.”
Sherry Wyche, 2005 graduate of HPU and recruiter for Guilford County Schools, gives a great piece of advice to the current students at HPU.

“Market yourself, get out there and get to know as many people as you can while you’re in school so when it comes time for you to graduate, you are ready,” says Wyche.
