HPU Named Third Largest Contributor to United Way

HIGH POINT, N.C., Feb. 4, 2015 – High Point University has been named the third largest contributor to the United Way of Greater High Point’s annual campaign for the second consecutive year.

The HPU family raised $225,000 in 2014 to support UWGHP and its 28 partner agencies – a 13 percent increase from last year’s donation and a 492 percent increase from 2005.

In addition to the annual campaign, students, faculty and staff donate 100,000 hours of service each year to the United Way and other agencies. According to United Way calculations, those volunteer hours are valued at $2.3 million.

“We are deeply appreciative to HPU for their tremendous support,” said Bobby Smith, president of United Way of Greater High Point. “There’s no doubt in my mind the future of High Point will continue to be shaped by the growth and generosity of HPU. It touches every single resident in the greater High Point area.”

“Our university continues to embrace the United Way of Greater High Point campaign every year through dozens of initiatives,” said Dr. Nido Qubein, HPU president. “Together, we can help thousands of deserving people in our city.”
