HIGH POINT, N.C., Feb. 16, 2015 – Jamison Orr, a sophomore at High Point University and a native of Falmouth, Massachusetts, is developing marketing skills through his internship at the Triad Business Journal, located in downtown Greensboro.
A business administration major with minors in marketing and sales, Orr is using what he’s learned in the classroom in different roles at the company. His responsibilities include assisting in the development of company events, running different social media forums and promoting sales of subscriptions to the paper.
“I am blessed with the opportunity to work alongside such an insightful and experienced group of people,” says Orr. “Among them is Grace Johnston, the events manager, who acts as my mentor and provides me with knowledge that will help me build my career in the early stages.”
Orr credits his coursework at HPU for giving him the knowledge and confidence he needed to obtain and excel in this position.
“The classes I have taken at HPU have helped me tremendously in the work that I am involved in at the Business Journal. My most recent class, sales and dynamic environments with Larry Quinn, has taught me how to properly sell myself as an individual in a job interview and has helped me to build my confidence in the business environment.”
Orr is in the process of co-founding a Toastmasters International club at HPU, an organization meant to build leadership, public speaking abilities and time management. His participation with other Toastmaster clubs in the Triad has helped him feel more comfortable with class presentations and his work at the Triad Business Journal, and he says it will provide further preparation for his future career in sales.
