HIGH POINT, N.C., Feb. 9, 2015 – High Point University welcomed 5,000 visitors for Winter Family Weekend held Feb. 6 – 8. The university expects to welcome 10,000 visitors this month alone after Presidential Scholars weekends Feb. 13 – 15 and Feb. 27 – Mar. 1.

Family Weekend included a variety of activities, including a session where HPU President Dr. Nido Qubein gave an overview and update on the growth of the university; a choral concert; faculty lectures; various religious services; Men’s Lacrosse game against Duke University; a service project in the city; family bingo; and much more.

Twenty-six members of the Parents Council and their HPU students spent Saturday volunteering by painting inside the Boys and Girls club at West End Ministries.

“As a small nonprofit it is imperative that we have committed volunteers on a daily basis. The students from High Point University continue to be a major reason we are able to serve so many of our neighbors,” says Chris Gillespie, executive director of West End Ministries. “It is truly a blessing to see our current students who volunteer bring their parents and even some grandparents to serve in the community where they go to school. These volunteers were able to do in a day what we would not have the resources and manpower to do in a month.”

Many local businesses also welcomed families visiting the city. Giannos, a Passport Partner of the university, was one of several restaurants frequented by students and parents.

“Giannos looks forward to the events that bring the families of HPU students to town,” says Dave Nicoletta, owner of Giannos. “We love being able to develop relationships with our visitors and are honored to be a favorite destination for so many High Point University families.”
