HIGH POINT, N.C., March 31, 2015 – High Point University hosted the Harlem Globetrotters on their 2015 World Tour featuring HPU alumnus Corey “Thunder” Law on March 30.

High Point University students, faculty, staff and members of the community, such as Big Brothers Big Sisters and local elementary school students, watched as the Globetrotters beat the Washington Generals with trick shots and dynamic moves.

“There’s not a day that goes by when I don’t think about all of the things I learned here at High Point University, the life experiences I had here and the people I met,” says Law. “This is where I grew into a man, and coming back to perform for the people who cheered for me when I was a Panther at HPU is a blessing and an incredible experience.”

Law, a former HPU basketball player, was named the dark horse dunker and competed in the 2013 Slam Dunk Championships that aired on ESPN. The world took notice of his talents. He received a call from the Harlem Globetrotters the day after he graduated and was asked to join their world-famous group. Ever since, he has trotted the globe with the renowned team and has smashed two Guinness World Records for the longest basketball shot and the longest backward basketball shot.

The HPU family and community members enjoyed a Meet and Greet with the Globetrotters before the game. HPU President Dr. Nido Qubein received an autographed jersey from Law in the third quarter.

“I knew Dr. Qubein personally here at HPU, because he knew everyone and cared about us as individuals,” Law adds. “To be able to do something in return by performing here with the Harlem Globetrotters at HPU and giving him this jersey during his tenth year at HPU is very rewarding.”
