HIGH POINT, N.C., March 11, 2015 – High Point University was honored with four awards from the United Way of Greater High Point at the organization’s annual celebration on March 10, as 
well as being named the city of High Point’s third largest contributor for the 2014 campaign.
HPU received the following distinctions: The Spirit of NC Award, recognizing companies and employees for their outstanding support; Gold status for the Employee Campaign Awards, awarded when pledges from employees are equal to or greater than 100 percent of their equal share; the Eagle Award for leadership in giving; and the Outstanding Achievement Award, for an organization who exceedingly generous support to the United Way goes “above and beyond.”
The HPU United Way Campaign raised more than $224,000 – a $24,000 increase over last year’s campaign and a $186,000 increase over the 2005 campaign.
HPU students, faculty and staff also contributed more than 100,000 hours to community service organizations during the past year – and an integral part of the award is volunteer spirit. According to United Way calculations, those volunteer hours are valued at $2.3 million. HPU volunteers at a variety of United Way charities, including the Boys and Girls Clubs, YMCA, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Open Door Ministries, West End Ministries, Salvation Army and many more.
