Impact Club Packs Over 1,000 Lunches for Backpack Beginnings

Impact ClubHIGH POINT, N.C., March 24, 2015 – High Point University’s Impact Club, a Christian service organization on campus, packed 1,012 lunches for 506 children to be fed for two weekends with Backpack Beginnings, a local nonprofit organization in Greensboro.

“Impact Club’s second ‘Give Backpack Lunch’ event was extremely successful,” said Christen Cothran, HPU student and president of Impact Club. “It was incredible to watch the community of High Point work together with students and faculty from the university to make a positive impact in the community. We have been so blessed to attend a university that values giving back to our local community.”

Backpack Beginnings is a local organization that sends backpacks of food home on the weekend with children who would otherwise not have enough food to eat. This organization will serve over 2,500 children in the Triad area this year. Their event was supported by a $1,650 grant from the High Point Rotary Club, which also participated in lunch packing.

“I am very proud of the students in Impact Club. This entire initiative was a product of their hard work,” says Dr. Sarah Vess, assistant professor of special education. “They wanted to give back to the city that has provided them with the opportunity to earn an extraordinary education.”
