Phoenix Reading Series to Feature Brian Evenson

HIGH POINT, N.C., March 24, 2015 – High Point University’s Department of English will host award-winning author, translator and critic Brian Evenson in conjunction with its Phoenix Reading Series at 7 p.m. on April 7 in the Francis Auditorium of Phillips Hall. It is free and open to the public; tickets are not required.

Evenson will read selections from his fictional story collection titled “Windeye.” A Q&A session, book sale and signing, and light reception will follow the reading.

Evenson is the author of a dozen books of fiction, most recently the story collection, “Windeye,” and the novel, “Immobility,” both of which were finalists for a Shirley Jackson Award. His novel “Last Days” won the American Library Association’s RUSA award in 2009, and his novel “The Open Curtain” was a finalist for an Edgar Award and an International Horror Guild Award. He has translated work by Christian Gailly, Jean Frémon, Claro, Jacques Jouet, Eric Chevillard, Antoine Volodine, Manuela Draeger, David B. and others. As a critic, he has published a book on Robert Coover and a monograph on Chester Brown’s graphic novel “Ed the Happy Clown.” He is the recipient of three O. Henry Prizes as well as an NEA fellowship. His work has been translated into French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese and Slovenian. He lives and works in Providence, Rhode Island, where he is Royce Professor of Teaching Excellence in Brown University’s Literary Arts Department.

The Phoenix Reading Series & Festival brings a diverse array of writers and thinkers to the HPU campus each year. It is sponsored in part by an HPU Cultural Enrichment Grant. This year’s series is produced in conjunction with the HPU Year of the Arts.
