HIGH POINT, N.C., April 9, 2015 – The High Point University Department of Music invites the community to its annual Spring Choral Concert. The event will be held at 7:30 p.m. on April 23 in the Pauline Theatre of the Hayworth Fine Arts Center. It is free and open to the public; tickets are required.

The three-part concert will feature the University Singers, Chapel Choir, Chamber Singers and Women’s Choir. Under the direction of Dr. Marc Foster, chair of the HPU Department of Music and director of choral activities, the combined choirs and orchestra will perform a collection of arrangements by award-winning composer Dr. Dan Forrest. Guests will also enjoy performances by HPU seniors Madison Jordan and Meaghan Reney, the winners of the inaugural HPU Concerto Competition.
Part I will feature Forrest’s “Entreat Me Not to Leave You,” “Lead Kindly Light,” “Good Night, Dear Heart,” “A Covenant Prayer,” “The Music of Living” and “You are the Music” performed by the HPU choirs. Accompanied by an orchestra for Part II, Jordan will sing selections from Aaron Copland’s “Old American Songs,” and Reney will perform “Concertino, Op. 107” by Cécile Chaminade on flute. The evening will culminate in a full performance of Forrest’s “Requiem for the Living” for part III.
Forrest’s choral works have received numerous awards and distinctions, including the ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer’s Award, the ACDA Raymond Brock Award, a Meet The Composer grant, the ALCM Raabe Prize and many others.
Visitors are encouraged to enter campus through the welcome center at the intersection of Montlieu Avenue and Centennial Street. Public parking and shuttles will be available in the lot behind the Hayworth Fine Arts Center.
