Student’s Design to Be Featured at Carolina Blues Festival

HIGH POINT, N.C., April 27, 2015 – A poster design created by High Point University senior Sarah Schneider, an Oak Ridge native, hit the right note with organizers of the 29th Annual Carolina Blues Festival and will be featured on posters, t-shirts and other promotional items. The event takes place May 16 in Greensboro.

Schneider’s design features a large light-blue guitar on a brown background and is overlaid with text promoting the event. She said she wanted to keep the design simple while including all of the critical elements.

“I wanted the design to fit with the blues aesthetic without being too obvious,” Schneider says. “My current typographic obsession is script fonts, so of course those were included. The banners were meant to add visual interest, helping to divide all of the information. It was very important to me that the piece not look too cluttered. I did my best to keep as much open space as possible even with all of the information that had to be placed.”

Schneider, who says she is a blues fan, was awarded two VIP tickets to the event for her winning design. She will graduate from HPU in May with a Bachelor of Arts in graphic design.
