HIGH POINT, N.C., April 14, 2015 – High Point University’s Department of Theatre is hosting six more nights of the comedic play “The Servant of Two Masters.” Tonight marks the second off-campus performance in the production’s tour of the Triad. Remaining performances will be held in Greensboro, Winston-Salem and on the HPU campus through April 19. It is free and open to the public.
Guests are encouraged to bring a donation to benefit the United Way of Greater High Point and the North Carolina Theatre Conference.
Written by Carlo Goldoni, “The Servant of Two Masters” is an adaptation of an 18th century classic “Commedia dell’Arte” traveling show. Set in Venice, Italy, the play tells the story of a clever but simpleminded servant who tries to serve two masters so he can have more to eat. He encounters young lovers, pompous men, miserly merchants and more as he works to do both jobs without getting caught.
“The first few shows have been a great success,” says Jay Putnam, HPU assistant professor of performance and directing. “The students performed with precision and the show delighted audiences. We’re all excited for the performances ahead, and the show is just getting better and better.”
