HIGH POINT, N.C., April 1, 2015 – High Point University’s Department of Theatre will tour the Piedmont Triad for performances of “The Servant of Two Masters.” Performances will be held on the HPU campus and at various locations throughout the Triad April 8-19. It is free and open to the public.
Guests are encouraged to bring a donation to benefit the United Way of Greater High Point and the North Carolina Theatre Conference.
Written by Carlo Goldoni, “The Servant of Two Masters” is an adaptation of an 18th century classic “Commedia dell’Arte” traveling show. Set in Venice, Italy, the play tells the story of a clever but simpleminded servant who tries to serve two masters so he can have more to eat. He encounters young lovers, pompous men, miserly merchants and more as he works to do both jobs without getting caught.
“The show is a breathless extravaganza of wonderful, ridiculous fun and adventure,” says Jay Putnam, HPU assistant professor of performance and directing. “Plus, there’s juggling, sword fights and great music!”

“The students involved in this production are engaged in a terrific challenge – they will play different roles on different nights,” says Putnam. “I’m incredibly impressed with the dedication and talent of this student group. They’ve created a wonderful fantasy world, and I think audiences will have a great time getting lost in the silly absurdity of it all.”
