HPU to Host Percussion Ensemble Concert 2015

HIGH POINT, N.C., April 15, 2015 – The High Point University Percussion Ensemble will captivate the community with a diverse mix of music during an upcoming concert featuring performances by HPU faculty and students. The event will be held at 7:30 p.m. on April 26 in the Pauline Theatre of the Hayworth Fine Arts Center. It is free and open to the public; no tickets are required.

Directed by Dr. Nathan Daughtrey, adjunct professor of percussion and music composition, the Percussion Ensemble consists of music majors, music minors and percussion enthusiasts. The ensemble will perform the world premieres of two works by student composers Seth Burleson and Jerod Oakes, the latter featuring cello student Ryder Harmon. Additionally, the evening of music will include pieces by Daughtrey, as well as Jim Casella, Susan Powell and Emma Lou Diemer.

“From a whisper to a roar, a wide range of styles and emotions will be represented throughout the concert,” says Daughtrey. “We are especially pleased to present works composed by two very talented students. It is an evening percussion lovers don’t want to miss.”
