Sarah Stride Presented With 2015 HPU Haverty Cup

HIGH POINT, N.C., April 17, 2015 – Sarah Stride, a senior at High Point University, was honored today as the 2015 recipient of the Haverty Cup.

Stride, a native of Littleton, New Hampshire, received $2,500 and her name engraved on the base of the Haverty Cup, which is on permanent display in the library of Norton Hall on HPU’s campus.

Stride has been a Dean’s List student and community service chair for her sorority. She has participated in the study abroad program in Florence, Italy and has shown her desire for a career in the home furnishings industry through interning in a showroom at the Boston Design Center. She has also worked for Lazar Industries during the High Point Market.

The Haverty Cup was established in 1988 by Rawson Haverty Sr. to honor annually the most outstanding home furnishings graduate of HPU. Haverty established the award to encourage students to pursue a career in the home furnishings industry. Steve G. Burdette, executive vice president of stores, and Scott T. Miles, vice president of stores, of Havertys presented Stride with the award on campus.

“Sarah has been in a number of my classes and I have found her to be an outstanding student,” says Dr. Richard Bennington, professor of home furnishings at HPU. “She is dedicated to learning and can always be counted on to do her best. She goes out of her way to thoroughly understand class material. Her dedication and positive attitude will ensure her success in the home furnishings industry.”
