HIGH POINT, N.C., May 14, 2015 – Dr. Mark Toole, assistant professor of religion at High Point University, received the Meredith Clark Slane Distinguished Teaching-Service Award during the 2015 commencement ceremony for his contributions to HPU. The award is named for Meredith Clark Slane, a friend to the university, and has been given annually since 1973 to recognize excellence in teaching.
Toole joined HPU in 2009 with degrees from DePauw University, Chicago Theological Seminary and the University of Denver. His courses are well known for their rigor and lively in-class discussions.
“It is a great honor to be recognized by my colleagues and students with this award,” says Toole. “As a college student, I was fortunate to work with excellent professors who invested in me, brought learning to life, and transformed the way I looked at the world. They set a high bar, and I strive to live up to their example every day.”
Toole directs the university Honors Program and has an active scholarship agenda. He is currently in India accompanying a group of HPU students on a study of Buddha’s India.
