HIGH POINT, N.C., June 17, 2015 – Rising senior Matthew Carpenter’s summer internship at Bloomberg headquarters in New York City is introducing him to the world of financial markets.
The business administration major from Madison, New Jersey, landed a financial product sales and analytics internship with the company that is preparing him to pursue a career in financial markets and information.
During the first half of the internship, Carpenter will learn the ins and outs of Bloomberg’s terminal so he can assist clients who are using the software to trade on equities, fixed incomes, commodities, foreign exchanges and mixed mortgages. In the second half of his internship, he will be trained to sell the terminal and the company’s services. His work includes many group sales projects, including preparing a pitch for potential university clients.
“Bloomberg is an exceptional company to be a part of,” Carpenter says. “As an intern, I am respected and held to very high standards. It has deeply encouraged me to continue work in this field.”
Carpenter says his business coursework helped prepare him for the internship, but out-of-the-classroom experiences and supportive faculty members made the difference in his success.
“My membership and role as cofounder of the High Point University Professional Selling Club has provided me with invaluable experience and knowledge that I have already put to use in the working world,” he says. “Specifically, Professor Larry Quinn has helped exponentially in preparing me and supporting me throughout all of my endeavors.”
