HIGH POINT, N.C., July 31, 2015 – Today the HPU family recognized Dr. Allen Goedeke for his 30 years of service at High Point University. A Pin Oak tree was dedicated outside of Roberts Hall to honor him and his retirement. Since coming to HPU, he has impacted countless students, the academic programs and the overall community on campus.Goedeke 1

“Dr. Goedeke has been a dedicated HPU family member who committed much of his life to ensure that High Point University is substantially meaningful to all students,” says Dr. Dennis Carroll, HPU provost. “His tireless support of our students will be missed. He has been, in many cases, the motivating mentor to help students realize their dream. We will miss him, and we wish him the very best as he enters a new phase of his life.”

The associate dean of academic development, Goedeke came to HPU as a faculty member in the Human Relations Department. When the university recognized the need to assign student academic services to an individual person, Goedeke was tapped. He developed the Summer Experience Program, the University Tutoring Program and the Learning Excellence Program. The Academic Development Program has been recognized nationally and has been the model that numerous colleges and universities have sought to emulate.

“He was one of my favorite teachers during my time at HPU,” says HPU alumna, Peg Epperson. “He was kind, encouraging, genuine and easy to approach. He was an icon at HPU and those who had him as a professor are lucky to know him.”
