HIGH POINT, N.C., July 1, 2015 – High Point University launched a Wellness Program for its employees less than two years ago, and already it is being recognized by the American Heart Association.
The Wellness Program allows HPU employees to make sustainable, positive changes in their lives, thus modeling healthy living for students. HPU received the Gold Award in the AHA’s 2014-15 Fit-Friendly Worksite, which recognizes employers that go above and beyond when it comes to their employees’ health in the physical, nutrition and culture categories.
On campus, HPU employees have access to free annual health screenings, health seminars, an employee 5K run, intramural sports teams and a fitness facility near the North College Administration building.
“To achieve this level of accomplishment in such a short amount of time is a testament to the commitment that the university has to building a stronger, healthier community for all of us,” says Melissa Marion, director of HPU’s Employee Wellness Program. “Our program hinges around the daily choice to be extraordinary in all aspects of our lives.”

HPU remains committed to improving the lives of its employees as well as the surrounding community. The School of Health Sciences recently launched the Physician Assistant Program, and the university has broken ground on an $85 million facility to house the School of Health Sciences and School of Pharmacy. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, prestigious faculty and newly designed curriculum, the schools will create a cornerstone for medical innovation at HPU.
