HIGH POINT, N.C., June 10, 2015 – High Point University recently hired Abira Roy as the clinical education specialist for the Department of Physician Assistant Studies.
Roy will help students in the Master of Physician Assistant Studies program with coordinating clinical rotations as part of their experiential learning. She serves as the point of contact for clinical sites and collaborates with faculty in the management and operation of the program.
“I will be interacting with graduate students in this program on a regular basis during the experiential learning phase of their education,” Roy says. “My goal is to ensure that we provide exceptional clinical practice opportunities for our PA students to develop the skills they need to excel in their field of practice.”
Roy says she is delighted to be a part of a team of highly dedicated health care professionals and is ready to share her passion for health care with students in Physician Assistant Studies.
“I am certain that our department will not only prepare PAs for practicing successfully in the health care industry, but the graduating PAs will have tremendous impact on the health and wellbeing of the Piedmont Triad community.”
Before joining High Point University, Roy worked as the quantitative skills program coordinator at the Student Academic Service Center at Lawrence University. There she recruited, trained and supervised student tutors who taught quantitative courses at the university.
Originally from Calcutta, India, Roy received her bachelor’s degree in English from St. Xavier’s College, Calcutta and her master’s degree in English from the University of Calcutta. She also studied sociology and social work at West Virginia University, receiving her master’s degree in social work with a concentration in health care research, public policy and program evaluation.
