HIGH POINT, N.C., July 20, 2015 – James Johnson, an experienced physician assistant from Winston-Salem, has joined High Point University’s Department of Physician Assistant Studies as assistant professor.
Johnson joins the physician assistant faculty as co-director of the program’s clinical decision-making course in which he will oversee all of the students’ simulation laboratory experiences.
Johnson comes to HPU with 14 years of clinical experience in trauma/burn surgery, emergency medicine and urgent care at Wake Forest Baptist Health. In addition to clinical practice, he serves as an assistant medical director for Forsyth County EMS with a focus on tactical medicine. He also helped start the Old Town Medical Clinic, a free clinic operated as a ministry by Old Town Baptist Church since 2006.
Through his various professional roles Johnson has assisted with scenario development, skills evaluations and simulation training for nurses and paramedics. He will use these same instructional approaches at HPU to prepare students in the PA program.
“My goal is to provide educational experiences and classroom instruction that will help students apply their knowledge to the care of patients,” Johnson says.
Johnson graduated from the Wake Forest School of Medicine Physician Assistant Program and received a Master of Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska Medical Center School of Allied Health Professions. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts in biology and psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
