HIGH POINT, N.C., July 28, 2015 – High Point University sophomore Halle Gardner’s introduction to the television industry has been somewhat supernatural considering she works for Travel Channel’s hit show “Ghost Adventures,” but she’s discovered that it’s hard work behind the scenes that leads to the production of an award-winning series.
This summer, Gardner, of Madison, Connecticut, is interning with My Entertainment, an independent television production company in New York City. There she is working with production coordinator Griffin Senning, a 2011 graduate of HPU. This experience is providing her with the opportunity to start developing her resume early in her college career.
Gardner ensures that all props, equipment and materials are ready for each shoot of “Ghost Adventures.” She also makes sure the production runs smoothly by keeping expense records, assembling itineraries for the show’s talent and running various errands for the team.
She says this experience has helped her learn more about herself and a possible career field.
“This internship has allowed me to grow so much in my personal work ethic,” says Gardner. “I’m learning daily how to maneuver a large city and gaining insight into all the opportunities available in communications.”
Gardner attributes her success in her internship to her first year of coursework at HPU, as well as Professor Doug Hall, the instructor of her human communications class.
“Professor Hall took our class out of the comfort zone, giving us confidence to speak in front of crowds and work with groups. He prepared me for the interactions I would face at my internship,” Gardner says. “Having the opportunity at HPU to connect with different professors and students has improved my communication skills more than I could have ever imagined.”
Gardner says she is excited to bring her summer experiences back to HPU and use what she’s learned in her coursework and even her future career. Her long-term goal is to use her skills in communication to work with people in many countries and cultures.
Season 11 of “Ghost Adventures” airs Aug. 22 on the Travel Channel.
