Vaughan Joins HPU Department of Exercise Science

HIGH POINT, N.C., July 7, 2015 – High Point University’s Department of Exercise Science welcomes Dr. Roger Vaughan, who joins the faculty as assistant professor.

Vaughan, who has authored more than a dozen research articles and spent the past decade studying disease prevention through diet and exercise therapies, will teach courses in sports nutrition, nutritional biochemistry, nutrition and exercise in genetics, phytochemicals, and nutrition and exercise in immune function.

An expert in nutritional biochemistry, dietary stimulators of metabolism and preventing metabolic disease, Vaughan says he looks forward to inspiring students in a deeper study of healthy diets and exercise and their impact on overall health.

“I am pleased to join the inspiring environment at HPU, where I hope to provide both basic and advanced nutritional education to students in the areas of exercise performance and disease prevention,” says Vaughan. “I’m also looking forward to involving students in ongoing research projects exploring dietary stimulators of metabolism for the benefit of preventing and treating diseases like obesity and diabetes.”

Vaughan was recognized as outstanding doctoral student in health, exercise and sports science at the University of New Mexico and as the 2013 recipient of the Southwest American College of Sports Medicine Gail Butterfield Award for Outstanding Research. He holds a bachelor’s degree in nutrition and dietetics, a master’s degree in nutrition and a doctorate in exercise science from the University of New Mexico. He also completed a postdoctoral research fellowship in nutritional biochemistry at Texas Tech University.
