HIGH POINT, N.C., Aug. 26, 2015 – High Point University will host Wes Moore, best-selling author, social entrepreneur and Army combat veteran, on Sept. 21 for two events.
The first event will be “A Discussion with HPU President Nido R. Qubein,” a question-and-answer session that will be held at 4:30 p.m. in the Hayworth Fine Arts Center. The event will be filmed by UNC-TV and aired at a later date.
Later that evening, Moore will address HPU students, faculty, staff and guests at 7 p.m. in the Millis Center.
Moore’s first book, “The Other Wes Moore,” became an instant New York Times and Wall Street Journal best-seller. His second book, “The Work,” provides the theme for HPU’s Common Experience, which encourages students and faculty to engage in discussion, intellectual inquiry and experiential activities throughout this academic year, including his presentation that evening.

About Wes Moore:
Born in 1978, Moore and his sisters were raised by their widowed mother. Despite early academic and behavioral struggles, he graduated Phi Theta Kappa in 1998 as a commissioned officer from Valley Forge Military College and Phi Beta Kappa from Johns Hopkins University in 2001, where he also played football and earned a bachelor’s degree in international relations. He then became a Rhodes Scholar, studying international relations at Oxford University.
After his studies, Moore, a paratrooper and captain in the United States Army, served a combat tour of duty in Afghanistan with the 1st Brigade of the 82nd Airborne Division. Moore then served as a White House fellow to the 66th Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, HPU’s 2016 Commencement speaker. He serves on the board of the Iraq Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), Johns Hopkins University and founded an organization called “STAND!” that works with Baltimore youth involved in the criminal justice system.
