HIGH POINT, N.C., Aug. 27, 2015 – The School of Education at High Point University recently added Dr. Theresa Hegedus to the faculty as assistant professor.
Hegedus teaches undergraduate elementary and middle grades teacher candidates and graduate students in the STEM concentration of the Master of Education program. She also serves as a university supervisor for students who are completing teaching internships.
“It is my goal to inspire creativity in my students and provide them with a passion for learning that extends beyond the classroom,” Hegedus says. “I am thrilled to join the dynamic professional learning community at High Point University.”
After beginning her career as a physical therapist, Hegedus became a teacher and taught middle school science in both public and private school settings for nine years. She has also been an instructor in the Department of Teacher Education and a research assistant on several grants at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Hegedus is a familiar face at HPU. She has served as an adjunct professor since 2013. She also has family ties to the university. Her husband, Dr. Eric Hegedus, is founding chair of the Department of Physical Therapy, her daughter is an HPU graduate, and her son is a current student.
Hegedus holds a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from the University of Pittsburgh, a master’s degree in gifted education from Elon University and a doctorate in science education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Her honors include the Tess Hegedus Academic Award, established in her honor at Triangle Day School, participation in the international Sandra K. Abell Institute for Doctoral Students in Washington, D.C., and the Graduate Research Scholar Award at UNCG.
