Student Lands Summer Internship at Nielsen

HIGH POINT, N.C., Aug. 13, 2015 – A company that is selling a product first and foremost wants to understand its consumers. High Point University rising senior Lisa Carlson is getting hands-on experience with this process through her summer internship at Nielsen in Chicago.

Nielsen is a leading global information and measurement company that enables companies to understand consumers and consumer behavior. Nielsen measures and monitors what consumers watch, such as programming or advertising, and what consumers buy.

Carlson, a Summit, New Jersey native, works on the meal solutions team in the enhancer’s category for Nielsen’s Kraft team. Her work is done on-site at Kraft Headquarters in the role of a professional analytics intern. Her responsibilities consist of working with clients to help them gain a better understanding of consumer and market trends. Kraft comes to Carlson with questions regarding their products, in which she then analyzes the proper data to find the best insights and solutions. This information helps Kraft understand its next steps to create a better business strategy.

“Through this experience I get the opportunity to look at data and help give the best advice as to what the next move a client should make with their products,” says Carlson. “It is great being able to work on-site with my clients, because I get the first-hand experience at answering their business questions and making an impact right away.”

With a double major in strategic communication and psychology and a minor in Spanish, Carlson plans to pursue a job that allows her to examine human behavior within the realm of marketing and communications following graduation.
