Percussion Ensemble to Perform Oct. 9

HIGH POINT, N.C., Sept. 28, 2015 – High Point University invites the community to enjoy the lively beats of the Percussion Ensemble at a concert to be held at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 9 in the Pauline Theatre of Hayworth Fine Arts Center. The event is free and open to the public. Tickets are not required.

Dr. Nathan Daughtrey, adjunct professor of percussion and music composition, will direct this evening of exciting music. The Percussion Ensemble, made up of music majors, music minors and other student musicians, will perform a selection of classics and new works.

“We are calling this concert ‘The Small Stuff,’ focusing on pieces that require fewer instruments than we typically use,” says Daughtrey. “This will include movements of a work for four players on one vibraphone, Debussy’s beautiful piano work, ‘Reverie,’ performed on an assortment of keyboard percussion, and the premiere of my new piece, ‘On the Spectrum,’ which we will perform three times throughout the concert with three very different instrument configurations.

“We’ve had a great community response to these concerts, and we look forward to sharing our current work at this upcoming event.”
