Students Collect Hundreds of Stuffed Animals for The Salvation Army

HIGH POINT, N.C. Sept. 22, 2015 – High Point University students collected 315 assorted stuffed animals during a student initiated Teddy Bear Drive.

From Sept. 1st – 19th members of Alpha Chi Omega sorority, Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority and Kappa Sigma fraternity used their Greek Week partnership to conduct a Teddy Bear Drive to benefit The Salvation Army of High Point.

For two weeks, the community and High Point University students worked together to collect an array of items. With the idea of helping local children in mind, everything from small stuffed bears, to beanie babies, to life-sized stuffed dogs were donated.

On Friday, Sept. 18th, representatives from each sorority and fraternity presented their collection to The Salvation Army and posed for a picture in front of the Hayworth Amphitheater on campus.

“The Salvation Army is grateful for the sorority members of HPU for collecting teddy bears for the children of High Point,” said Captain Natalie Jackson. “The stuffed animals that were collected will be given to children that receive Christmas assistance or come into our Center of Hope Shelter. During difficult times many children come to us with only the clothes they’re wearing. Receiving a special teddy bear as they walk in the door will brighten a child’s day.”

The Salvation Army would like to thank High Point University, Alpha Chi Omega sorority, Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority and Kappa Sigma fraternity for holding such a successful Teddy Bear Drive. The student’s creative initiative and servant hearts are already helping us make a huge difference in the lives of others.
