HIGH POINT, N.C., Oct. 23, 2015 – High Point University’s female a cappella group, the Petal Points, is hosting the first-ever HPU fall a cappella festival event, Aca-tober Fest, at 7 p.m. on Oct. 30. The event will be held in the Pauline Theatre of Hayworth Fine Arts Center. It is free and is open to the public; tickets are not required.
Aca-tober Fest will benefit the Greater High Point Food Alliance and attendees are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items to donate.
Nine a cappella groups will be featured at the event – HPU’s Petal Points, Toccatatones and Offbeats, and six groups from nearby universities N.C. State, Elon and Gardner-Webb University. Because the event lies on Halloween weekend, many of the acts will be performed in costume, lending a fun and unique visual to the event. Attendees are also encouraged to come in costume.
“We are so excited to be hosting HPU’s first-ever a cappella festival,” says Petal Points member Erika May. “With six guest groups from three different local colleges, it is going to be a fun night of great music. Along with this, we are extremely happy to be partnering with the Greater High Point Food Alliance as we encourage the donation of canned goods in lieu of selling tickets.
