Freshman Receives Korean War Veterans Scholarship

HIGH POINT, N.C., Oct. 27, 2015 – Steve Green, High Point University freshman and Bridgeport, Connecticut native, received a $1,000 scholarship from the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs 40th Division Korean War Veterans in memory of his grandfather Raymond Edward Green, who received a Purple Heart for his service during the Korean War. The scholarship is given by the Korean government to honor the grandchildren of Korean War Veterans to thank them for their service.

Lyles H. Kearns, HPU 1950 alumnus, presented the award to Green on Oct. 3. Kearns joined the United States Army in October 1950 and served in Korea for 21 months beginning in January 1951.

“I am so honored to be his grandson and receive this scholarship award,” says Green. “I feel like I am honoring him and his great service through this award and that means the world to me. He was one of my biggest role models because he was always the best person that he could be.”
