New Instructor of Political Science Joins HPU

HIGH POINT, N.C., Oct. 30, 2015 – High Point University welcomes Dr. Carr Boyd as an instructor of political science. He teaches research methods in political science and American politics classes.

Boyd brings a wealth of knowledge and experience about state and local government to HPU. His prior work in public safety included serving as a fire captain with the Charlotte Fire Department, teaching as an instructor at the National Fire Academy, and leading as the director of emergency services for a community near Roanoke, Virginia. He is also a certified Nationally Registered Paramedic.

He says that by studying government, especially state and local government, students can grasp the importance of politics in their everyday lives.

“I aim to engage students in a way that peaks their curiosity about government and the political process and encourages them to actively participate in society,” says Boyd. “I look forward to being a part of an incredibly dynamic institution, engaging with students and contributing in a productive way to the study of political science at HPU.”

Boyd arrives at HPU after serving for two years as a visiting assistant professor of political science and public policy at Salem College. He also served as an adjunct faculty member in the political science department at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Boyd earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from Hampden-Sydney College. He completed a Master of Public Administration and a doctorate in public policy from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
