HIGH POINT, N.C., Oct. 5, 2015 – The Sechrest Art Gallery at High Point University will feature the work of renowned artists from across the country at VISIONS 2015: Fourth Annual Exhibition. The exhibit opens Oct. 19 and will remain in the gallery until Dec. 10. A reception will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 29 with an artist talk at 5 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
The exhibition features the work of professional artists and encompasses a wide range of mediums, including landscapes, cityscapes, still life, figurative paintings, drawings, photography and printmaking.
“This year’s VISIONS exhibition is particularly exciting. It showcases a group of very highly skilled artists who are rooted in observation as the basis for their work,” says Maxine Campbell, gallery director and curator of the Sechrest Art Gallery. “The work we are showing is very cutting-edge in terms of content and a high caliber of graphic quality. Students and community members alike will relate to the work on multiple levels.”
The more than 30 pieces of artwork in the exhibit were chosen from a pool of almost a hundred submissions. Artists featured in the show include the following:
- Jason Watson, a mixed-media artist whose work combines interests in the figure, found objects and text as visual material.
- Andrew Brown, a painter whose works are a response to technology.
- Janet Lauroesch, who features exquisite small sketchbooks from observation.
- John Wood, whose Upper Room Series of pottery was partially inspired by Jesus’ washing of the disciples’ feet in the Gospel of John.
- Andrew Wells, whose large-scale self-portraits and drawings of his students are a timely and relevant commentary on social media, particularly selfies.
During HPU’s Fall Art and Design Fest, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 10, some of the artists’ small works will be on display and offered for sale. The sale will feature North Carolina artists Jeremy Sams and Connie Logan and will also include works from the VISIONS exhibition by artists Andrew Brown, Janet Lauroesch, John Wood and Alberto Meza.
Hours for the Sechrest Art Gallery exhibit are 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call 336-841-4685 or 336-803-1815 for more information.
