HIGH POINT, N.C., Oct. 9, 2015 – High Point University senior Sidney Durham will compete for the title of Miss Virginia USA on Oct. 9-11 in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Durham, a Charlottesville native who is studying strategic communication and event management at HPU, currently holds the title of Miss Twin Cities Virginia USA. This is her third year competing in the Miss Virginia USA pageant. She finished in the Top 12 last year.
“Being a part of Miss Virginia USA has been an amazing experience,” Durham says. “I have learned how to carry myself with poise, how to speak during an interview, and most importantly I have learned this isn’t about competing against other women – it is about completing yourself. I have gained amazing friends and mentors throughout my time as well, and I hope to gain more connections this year. Of course, I hope to gain the crown!”
Durham is supporting the charity People and Congregations Engaged in Ministry through her participation in the pageant. The organization houses and feeds homeless men and women in her hometown during the coldest months of the year.
“I believe that no person should be without a warm place to sleep and food to eat,” she says. “I am currently working with Open Door Ministries in High Point. I have a special spot ingrained in my heart to help those in need.”
The Miss Virginia USA finals will be live streamed starting at 6 p.m. on Oct. 11 at http://www.missvirginiausa.com. The winner advances to the Miss USA competition.
