Congdon School of Health Sciences Distinguished Lecture Series Presents Tray Dunaway, MD

HIGH POINT, N.C., Nov. 24, 2015 – High Point University’s Congdon School of Health Sciences will host Tray Dunaway, MD for the school’s semiannual Distinguished Lecture Series. The event will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 1 in the David L. Francis Lecture Hall at Earl N. Phillips School of Business. The event is free and open to the public. Tickets are not required.

Dunaway, a surgeon who now consults with health care providers on the modern and evolving medical system, will give a presentation on providing better patient care by “connecting the health care dots.” He will discuss the complex, connected ecosystem that makes up the health care network and how physician assistants, hospitals and other “dots” can work together to improve value.

Dr. Linda Sekhon, founding chair of the Department of Physician Assistant Studies, says Dunaway’s well-respected, visionary approach provides a timely and relevant message as HPU invests in expanding academic programs in the health sciences.

“Dr. Dunaway is an engaging speaker with a keen awareness of the many challenges of ‘connecting the dots’ in an interdisciplinary health care environment,” she says. “His message resonates with patients and providers alike in this complex and at times fragmented health care system. He is in high demand around the country, and I’m thrilled that he has made the time to share his wisdom with our students.”

As a general surgeon for 16 years, Dunaway recognized that America’s advanced health care system was being weakened by fragmentation from economic evolutionary pressures. He has studied relationships between the various members of the health care community to find ways of improving its function and profitability. This includes the Evaluation and Management (E&M) Risk Based Coding™ methodology he created to help providers with documentation that improves revenue for hospitals and medical practices. A health care futurist, he is the chief “dotsultant” of Healthcare Value Inc.
