De Nicolas Joins HPU as Spanish Professor

HIGH POINT, N.C., Nov. 25, 2015 – High Point University hired Dr. Sara De Nicolas as a visiting assistant professor of Spanish.

De Nicolas teaches all levels of Spanish courses and mentors students in the Spanish major. She also conducts research that focuses on sociolinguistics, second-language acquisition and semantics, and highlights nuances of the  Spanish language.

“There are 21 Spanish-speaking countries in the world. I make sure my students have all they need to embrace the rich and varied cultures of these countries,” says De Nicolas. “By understanding Spanish, students can open their minds to an amazing world that will help them become more successful in this global and complex age.”

De Nicolas previously served as a visiting professor and Spanish interpreter at Elon University. She also served as an international students counselor, interpreter and translator at the Department of International Relations and Mobility at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in Spain.

De Nicolas earned bachelor’s, advanced and doctoral degrees in linguistics from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. She also studied applied linguistics, second-language acquisition and bilingualism at Georgetown University.
