HIGH POINT, N.C., Nov. 24, 2015 – High Point University hired Kristina Goff as an assistant professor of interior design.
Goff teaches classes in both the interior design and visual merchandising concentrations at HPU. In her studio courses, students learn about programming for interior design, how to organize for designing an interior space and researching building construction codes.
“I am grateful for life to have led me to such a wonderful opportunity to teach amazing students right here in the home of the international furniture market,” says Goff.
Goff has extensive experience in both retail design and merchandising, including design and fabrication of retail stores, marketing and selling brand image, store planning and layout, and understanding the psychology of shoppers and buying. Because of this background, her research emphasizes branding through the interior commercial space, color theory on shoppers and how these factors influence store layout and merchandising decisions.
Goff developed her skills by working at a design and architecture firm that focuses on retail store layout design and code research and a high-end furniture and tile retail company, where she provided input on design decisions, marketing, vendor sourcing and construction site management. She also worked for a well-known retail design company that focuses on both small retail spaces and large flagship stores.
“My skills in all aspects of retail design and merchandising, psychology in the built environment, and my art and business background help me bring yet another layer of information to the students at HPU,” says Goff. “I look forward to getting to know my students, hear their histories and help them to figure out their aspirations in their chosen field.”
Goff earned a Bachelor of Science in interior design from Southern Illinois University and a Master of Science in interior design from Illinois State University.
