HPU Awards Bieniemy Scholarship to Senior Accounting Major; November 2015

HIGH POINT, N.C., Nov. 10, 2015 – High Point University senior Brandon Sloan is the recipient of the Ollie Bieniemy Jr. Endowed Scholarship, one of the most prestigious scholarships offered by the Earl N. Phillips School of Business.

Sloan is an accounting major from Oakland, Michigan. A Presidential Scholar and Millis Scholar-Athlete, he is a member of the HPU men’s soccer team and vice president of finance for Alpha Kappa Psi, HPU’s professional business fraternity. Sloan is also a math and accounting tutor as well as a Peer Career Advisor. In addition to his involvement on campus, he serves weekly as a reading buddy for third-graders at Trindale Elementary.

This summer, Sloan interned with Deloitte Corporate Finance as an investment banking summer analyst. He was awarded a full-time offer and will begin his career as an investment banking analyst with Deloitte upon graduation.

Sloan says his experience at HPU, including the Bieniemy Scholarship, has made a great impact on his ability to pursue his educational and career goals.

“The accounting knowledge I’ve been able to absorb at HPU has equipped me with the necessary tools to compete with students from the highest rated business schools across the country,” Sloan says. “I also believe HPU has gone above and beyond to develop my soft skills, so that not only can I excel in the classroom and office, but I’ll also always be prepared for the important interviews, meetings or dinners that lie ahead.”

The Bieniemy Scholarship was established in memory of Ollie Bieniemy Jr. in 2006 by gifts from industry friends and colleagues. Bieniemy was the first advertising director of Furniture|Today, the leading weekly business newspaper of the United States furniture industry, where he was an integral part of the publication’s launch in 1976. His passion for furniture and home furnishings, combined with his ability to create and implement start-up goals and strategies, resulted in Furniture|Today becoming an industry leader. Bieniemy is remembered for his marketing acumen and his personal relationship skills.

The merit-based scholarship is awarded to HPU seniors who best exemplify the values of the School of Business. Criteria for selection include academic performance, university and community service, extracurricular activities, brightness of character and work ethic.
