HPU’s 45th Annual Phoenix Literary Festival to Feature Author Douglas Glover

HIGH POINT, N.C., Nov. 4, 2015 – High Point University’s Department of English will host Canadian author Douglas Glover for the 45th annual Phoenix Literary Festival event at 7 p.m. on Nov. 19 in Extraordinaire Cinema at the R.G. Wanek Center. It is free and open to the public; tickets are not required.

During the event, Glover will read selections from his works and participate in a Q&A and book signing. A reception will follow the program.

Glover will also visit classes and meet with HPU students on campus. On Nov. 20, students from HPU and area high schools who have submitted work for the Phoenix Festival will take part in a writing workshop with Glover as well as an awards presentation and book signing.

“Douglas Glover is among the best Canadian writers and has won many awards for his work,” says Georgeanna Sellers, assistant professor of English at HPU. “He will give the audience insight into how he came to write the work he reads, what motivated him to write, and what goal he was reaching for in each particular work. We look forward to his visit to campus.

Glover is the author of “Savage Love,” his most recent short story collection, as well as five other books of short stories, four novels, two books of essays, and “The Enamoured Knight,” a book about Cervantes and novel form. His novel “Elle” won the 2003 Governor-General’s Award for Fiction and was a finalist for the IMPAC Dublin Literary Award. In 2007, he received the Writers’ Trust Timothy Findley Award. From 1996 to 2006, he was the editor of the annual collection “Best Canadian Stories.” In 2010, he founded the online magazine Numéro Cinq.

The Phoenix Reading Series & Festival brings a diverse array of writers and thinkers to the HPU campus each year. It is sponsored in part by an HPU Cultural Enrichment Grant.
