HIGH POINT, N.C., Nov. 13, 2015 – Dr. Bryan Vescio joined High Point University as a professor and chair of the Department of English.
Vescio teaches courses in American literature, literary theory, writing and film studies. He also leads the department as chair, supervising faculty and staff and managing various aspects of the program.
“I couldn’t be more excited to be joining the English Department at HPU,” Vescio says. “We have an energetic and innovative department full of dedicated, student-focused faculty, and I look forward to helping build on the great strengths of a university that is ideally positioned for growth and success in a rapidly changing higher education landscape.”
Before coming to HPU, Vescio taught for 13 years at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, where as a tenured professor he was nominated four times for the university’s student-selected teaching award. He also served as assistant coach to the men’s tennis team, helping it achieve four conference championships, three NCAA Tournament appearances, and a consistently high grade point average.
Vescio’s research focuses on 19th and 20th century American literature as well as the relationship between literature and philosophy. He recently published his first book, “Reconstruction in Literary Studies: An Informalist Approach.” He also enjoys helping others experience personal growth through studying various forms of writing and self-expression, including bringing literature and film to the community.
Vescio holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his master’s and doctorate in English from the University of Virginia.
