Communication Students Develop Marketing Campaign for Open Door Ministries

HIGH POINT, N.C., Dec. 14, 2015 – High Point University students recently put together a campaign for Open Door Ministries in an effort to revamp and increase the organization’s overall communication presence.

Open Door Ministries is a non-profit organization that provides housing, food, job and education assistance to the homeless and low-income individuals and families in the High Point area.

“This class did a fantastic job of developing a marketing campaign for Open Door Ministries this semester,” said Stephen Key, executive director of Open Door Ministries. “I was very impressed with the professionalism of the students and the quality of their work. It has been a pleasure to work alongside these HPU students over the past several months. Their efforts will definitely have a lasting impact on our organization.”

Throughout the semester the HPU students put together a new website, brochure, Facebook page, booklet, newsletter and gave the organization strategies for moving forward.

“This class has given me a real-world simulation of working with a client,” said HPU student Morgan Garren. “Working with a team to prepare a complete proposal for the client provided experience that can’t be learned in the classroom. The client relationship was crucial to the campaign and working with such an amazing organization not only prepared the class for future careers, but allowed us the chance to give back to the High Point community.”

“From the beginning, the client was clear on their expectations for communication and marketing needs and responsive to students’ questions,” said Dr. Sojung Claire Kim, assistant professor of strategic communication in the Nido R Qubein School of Communication at HPU. “Throughout the semester, students had the opportunity to showcase their research, message design knowledge and skills to help out a local non-profit who wants to raise awareness and re-brand their website. Overall, this was a great experiential learning opportunity for our students.”
