HIGH POINT, N.C., Dec. 9, 2015 – High Point University is underwriting the new splash pad to be built at the Carl Chavis YMCA in High Point with a lead gift of $100,000. The splash pad will be named in honor of Carlvena Foster, executive director of the YMCA.
“We honor Carlvena and her extraordinary citizenship and devoted leadership,” said Dr. Nido Qubein, High Point University president.
The splash pad is an interactive, zero-depth water park designed for all ages. Splash pad activities include spraying, splashing, dumping and walk-through features.
“HPU comes together so often in this community to create opportunities for our children to experience success,” said Foster. “I am a product of this community, and this community lives in me and it’s in my heart. It’s never about me, but about all of us. This splash park will be another success in the lives of our children. And from the bottom of my heart, I thank Dr. Qubein and the High Point University family for this legacy they allow me to leave for my children.”
“The YMCA of High Point is so grateful to High Point University for their leadership and financial support of this project,” said David Ozmore, president and CEO of the YMCA. “We will be able to serve so many more children through this splash pad, and to honor Carlvena in this way is perfect. She is such a champion for the Y and for children.”
