Professor Authors and Edits Book on Teaching Psychology

HIGH POINT, N.C., Dec. 4, 2015 – Psychology teachers have a new reference book of helpful tips and resources thanks to a recent publication by High Point University assistant professor Dr. Sadie Leder Elder.

Elder acts as both an author and the primary editor of the second edition of the e-book, “Introductory Psychology Teaching Primer: A Guide for New Teachers of Psych 101.” The book provides practical guidance for those who teach Introduction to Psychology.

“This primer is designed to be a pragmatic aid that will give instructors what they need to get started right away,” says Elder. “With approximately 1.7 million students taking introductory psychology every year, this primer should prove to be an important and well utilized resource.”

Each of the book’s chapters outlines learning objectives for various topics to be covered in the introductory psychology curriculum, as well as suggested activities and techniques to use during class, possible assessments of student learning, and relevant articles for further reading.

Elder was also an author and editor of the previous edition of the primer, which analytics have shown to be one of the Society for the Teaching of Psychology’s most accessed e-books of 2015.

“The newly released edition draws from accomplished teachers from across the nation to provide their best practices for teaching this course,” says Elder. “It is an honor to give back to the teaching community by contributing to this important work.”
