SGA Fills Hundreds of Stockings for Salvation Army

HIGH POINT, N.C., Dec. 10, 2015 – The High Point University community has embraced the Salvation Army’s Stuff a Stocking Campaign again this year. The HPU Student Government Association helped the university near its goal of 1,000 stockings by filling more than 300 stockings today, which will be delivered to children across the Triad on Christmas morning this year.

Stockings can still be picked up from the Office of Student Life and returned by Dec. 11.

“Helping those in need is very important,” said SGA member Sarah Field. “Giving back is a big thing that we do as an organization, so it was very important for us to give as many stockings as we can this year and give back to the community. This community supports us so much here at High Point University, and the least we can do is give back to them in some way.”

SGA filled their stockings with toys, school supplies, teddy bears and more. Last year, the HPU family donated more than 750 stockings.

“Our HPU students initiate so many giving projects,” said Gail Tuttle, senior vice president for the Office of Student Life. “They embrace the opportunity and values of service and gratitude. We are so proud of our SGA members for recognizing the needs of the local community and children who may not enjoy Christmas without this program.”
