Sorority Makes Christmas Cards for Children at UNC Medical Center

HIGH POINT, N.C., Dec. 9, 2015 – High Point University’s Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority and the HPU community made Christmas cards for children at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Medical Center in hopes of making their holidays brighter.

“By writing these cards to children in the hospital, we hope to bring a smile to a child’s face,” said Hannah Grimes, Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority member. “Battling an illness is a terrible thing for anyone, especially a child, to have to go through. Sigma Sigma Sigma wanted to spread positivity their way and show them that we care.”

This event was a part of the sorority’s Week of Kindness. During the week, the sorority baked cookies and distributed them to professors, passed out candy canes to HPU students and put together bags of candy that they gave to HPU Campus Enhancement and Security to thank them for everything that they do for the HPU community.

Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority regularly contributes its time and philanthropic efforts to the hospital in Chapel Hill by visiting and spending time with the children, and by donating money to fund play therapy programs.

“I love being able to bring some holiday cheer to these children,” said Maddie Travell, Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority member. “The HPU family came together to make these cards for them and I am grateful to have been a part of that process. Giving back is good no matter what you do and I know our sorority will continue to do this for these children for years to come.”
