HIGH POINT, N.C., March 22, 2016 – One special child has led a High Point University fraternity to raise funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and beat a Guinness World Record at the same time.
Beta Theta Pi is sponsoring a child and raising funds for that child’s “wish” to come true through the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central and Western North Carolina. So far, they’ve raised $1,500 through a cornhole tournament that brought hundreds of people out for the cause.
“We are so excited to start a partnership with the Make-A-Wish Foundation through our inaugural Cornhole Tournament,” said James Ensor, Beta Theta Pi president. “The work that the foundation does is truly amazing and we want to ensure that they are able to help as many children as possible. HPU has a wonderful community willing to donate to our cause and have fun at the same time. We can’t wait for next year’s event.”
At the same time, they played a 26-hour, 16-minute and 28-second game of corn hole to break the Guinness World Record for the longest marathon of the game that’s popular on college campuses. Fraternity members Ryan Fox, Eric Donovan, Liam Barger and Carter Hering broke the Guinness World Record for the longest marathon of cornhole at this event. The record was previously set at 26 hours, 12 minutes and 44 seconds, and the students played cornhole for 26 hours, 16 minutes and 28 seconds.

“It is still surreal that we were able to beat the Guinness World Record,” said Hering. “What got me through the 26 hours wasn’t just pure will, it was knowing that if a kid is fighting for his life with cancer, I can do this for 26 hours. It was mentally and physically challenging, but knowing who we did it for kept all of us going.”
